Kindergarten Programs

What to expect from kindergarten programs

Kindergarten is an important time for your child, since it is the entry point of his academic life. You want to make the right choice from the many kindergarten programs available. It is important that your child learns how to socialize with other children, and that the friendships he establishes are founded on a positive academic experience.

Kindergarten programs will expose your child to math, science, reading and art. Many programs will take the time to introduce these subjects in a fun and interesting way. Your child might, for instance, learn to count objects. After he is comfortable counting, teachers will teach him the basics of arithmetic. Many times, lessons are encompassed in exciting games and activities.

Teachers and teachers' aides will read to your child, and may encourage him to pronounce words. Additionally, your child will learn to write the alphabet, so that once he has completed his kindergarten experience, he can begin spelling and writing words.

Your child may also be acquainted with science and nature during his days at kindergarten. Learning about animals and trees—their names and what they look like—is a fun way to teach children about the world around them. Field trips (with parental consent) to places like zoos are not uncommon in kindergarten programs.

Although your child will be learning these academic fundamentals, his kindergarten teacher will recognize that he is still very young. Recesses, and breaks for refreshments are usually very common at this level of education. A great kindergarten program curriculum will challenge and motivate your child to learn, while at the same time allowing him to still be a child and have fun.
