Finding Quality Child Care
What are the signs of quality child care?
When you visit a child care facility that you are considering for your child, there are some outward signs of a successful and high quality establishment. The first thing you want to look for are happy, healthy children. If the children seem tired, bored, or irritable, regardless of what you find out about the facility from brochures and talking to instructors, it is probably not a good fit for your child. If the children are healthy and happy, they are probably getting regular exercise, healthy snacks and good instruction.
Check out the size of the classrooms. If there are so many children that the instructor cannot control the classroom, you may want to reconsider the program. Your child deserves the proper attention of her instructor.
Look at the learning materials that will be assigned to your child. Is the learning too advanced for a child? Are the materials too remedial? In either case, you may want to consider another center. The learning materials your child is exposed to should be challenging and interesting to her. A child that is not challenged by curriculum can become complacent in school, a difficult habit and attitude for children to break.
Even after you have checked that a child care facility is accredited and the instructors are credentialed, visiting and seeing the facility first hand will help you make your final choice.
