Reading for Kids
Why reading is critical to your child's academic success
As your child begins his educational development, his foundation in reading will prove to be a critical component of his academic success. A child who can read well early in life may have an advantage learning in any subject.Teaching your child to read will open a world of opportunity and learning. A child who is curious and can open a book and learn about something that interests him can become a well-rounded adult.
Your child's reading comprehension skills will help him when learning science, language arts, foreign languages, and other subjects. When your child has strong reading skills, he will be more engaged when visualizing a scientific problem, an algebraic word problem, or reading storybooks meant for kids his age.
Strong readers become strong writers. As your child reads more, his vocabulary will strengthen and his verbal communication skills will develop. He will become more aware of his own interests and explore them through writing, discussion, and reading.
The sooner you help your child learn to read, the more he can learn in his lifetime. If he is young, reading will become a regular part of his life. This will enable him to become a better student and a more informed adult, leading to a happier and more interesting life.
