Learning Style & Skills Assessment
Why does your child need an assessment on learning style and skills?
As a parent you may wonder why a skills assessment is necessary to your child's education. Essentially, every child has a unique learning style and individual strengths and areas to improve. For this reason, it is beneficial if the tutoring program that your child is involved in adequately and accurately evaluates your child's individual learning style and current skill level.A great tutoring program will assess your child's skills with standardized tests as well as with visual and hearing assessments. These standardized tests will determine your child's personal skill sets, while the visual and hearing tests determine whether your child suffers any impairment that needs to be considered in the learning process.
Through learning style assessments and skills assessments, the tutor can understand the individual needs of your child. Whether he is a visual, auditory or tactile learner, and where his strengths lay, be that mathematics, science, language or art. This method helps the tutor to accurately devise a personalized learning plan for your child. The tutor will be more effective in your child's learning experience and your child will, in turn, be more enthusiastic about learning because the learning plan that the tutor has established will strengthen the skills your child has while developing the skills he needs.
Determining your child's skills through tutoring will help him achieve greater success in school. For instance, if a child is easily distracted, he should sit towards the front of his classroom. His teachers should encourage him to utilize any special skills that he possesses. For instance, a child that learns better through reading might do poorly in math unless he is asked to do a “word problem,” or a child who excels in science but does poorly in language will most likely enjoy applied science as opposed to reading text about science.
If your child and his tutor can determine early what his needs are, those needs will be met and his education will improve. By understanding his strengths, weaknesses, and learning style, his tutors and teachers will be better equipped to instruct him appropriately.
