Summer Programs for Children

Summer Programs for Children

Resources for summer programs for children

Although most of us would like to stay home during the summer with our children, realistically, it isn't always possible. If your child is home for the summer and you have to work, there are several summer programs and activities available for children that you could consider.

Many schools, both public and private, will offer summer programs for children. Simply contact the front desk or school secretary and ask if they do offer summer programs. School-based summer programs often focus on sports, music, theater, and in some cases, science or the arts.

You may also refer to your local parks and recreation department for summer programs. Parks and recreation departments often have summer camps in a variety of areas, and organize different field trips throughout the summer months. Usually, there is a small fee involved. Your local YMCA will usually feature summer programs for children, and they are similar to the parks and recreation programs.

Another great place to find a summer program is your local library. Throughout the summer, many public libraries offer summer book clubs for children. This is a wonderful way to get your child interested in reading for fun.

Summer programs for children are a great way to get your child off the couch and involved in stimulating activities. Through summer programs, your child can make lasting friendships with children from other schools and build skills that he will draw on throughout his academic career and beyond.
