Test Taking Tips & Study Techniques

Ease test anxiety for your child with these test taking tips & study techniques

A standardized test can make your child very anxious, but there are some simple test taking tips and study techniques that you can teach your child to help him succeed and build his confidence.

Many students think that if they have a test to take in several weeks that they can put off studying until the night before. This is a common misconception and can become a bad habit in students. Often the student who puts studying off until the night or two before a test will experience anxiety both while studying and during the test. A great way to defeat this is by teaching your child that studying for an hour or so every night for at least one to two weeks ahead of time will commit the information to his long term memory and curb any test anxiety.

Once your child has been studying regularly for a few weeks and the test date approaches, make sure that he eats a hearty meal the night before the test. Then, in the morning make sure that he has a good, healthy breakfast.

Good study habits and techniques, a healthy diet, and a good night's sleep will help your child relax and stay focused during his test. Your child will feel more confident and comfortable when test day approaches, and this will help to improve test scores.
